It was posted on many outdoor forums that Jeff Jesse James who runs Jesses Hunting JHO was caught in June of 2008, selling his customers and members account (credit card) information to companies for a $1 a name. In turn, these members were billed for outdoor magazine subscriptions, weight loss products, and various software downloads like virus protection ETC.
So we decided to give Jesse James a call to inquire about advertisement and possibly get the real story behind the credit card scam. Actually, his real name is Jeffrey.
Anyway, I inquired about BENEFACTOR SPONSOR because $5000 dollars can buy a WHOLE lot of targeted advertising.
A Benefactor Sponsor membership includes 1 logo, either animated or static which is not in any rotation script and is always visible on the main index page etc.
Jeffrey, got excited when I asked about this package and rolled out the red carpet pitch. My first question was how many banners are in rotation? He told me not to worry about that because I'll have a static banner at the top of the main page? I repeated it's important to know because the banners in rotation will still be in competition with my static banner and when the users are off the main page my banner is also in a rotation.
He replied, a Benefactor Sponsorship is much different then a banner sale. I then asked, how much is a regular banner package with the same service? He replied, $500. I then asked, what would the other $4500 go towards? He replied, I'll introduce you to members of the forum and you can add your product/service in your posts. I told him I don't have time to post in the forum and could I not introduce myself if I did? He replied, you would not be known as a benefactor sponsor. I then told him that I've seen many advertisement links in posts from non-benefactors. He told me that "he" grants them permission if he likes them.
The close:
Jeffrey explained that the members in his forum are the true movers and shakers in the internet hunting world and by "him" introducing me as a benefactor sponsor would greatly increase my product reputation to a level not possible to achieve on my own. Yes, he said that.
He also told me he has a very popular Facebook page and his outdoor production studio company shoots a lot of video for the industry. I said really?...he then went on a good 5 minute rant dropping names of people in the outdoor industry.
The BS was getting thick so I then asked, why are all these movers and shakers (he knows) NOT benefactor sponsors? Then I dropped the bomb, is there any validity about you selling members information and credit card numbers? There was a long pause and then a........ CLICK!
The Clean:
So lets translate what just happen and wash this BS and get the clean. First, take a look at this guys house and understand his business is ran from there and his outdoor production studio is his garage. Second, his videos are laughable at best with zero production value. Your average 13 year old has more movers and shakers on their Facebook page then Jeffrey. After reviewing his Facebook page they are just ordinary folks. No movers, no shakers, and found it odd he pitch this so hard.
The "close" is the main reason real mainstream sponsors stay away. In short, paying sponsors need to take time out of their day to post links in his forum? Jeffrey at best is just shopping for suckers and proved this when he dropped his fee from $5k-$500 in less then 3 minutes. Sadly, what is truly concerning is there must be some sucker who paid $5k because Jeffrey is still using that pitch today.
Coming soon: A story about Jesses Hunting contest winner. It's actually funny and pathetic at the same time.
